Q36.5 offers a holistic concept for cycling equipment
Founder and CEO Luigi Bergamo explains why Q36.5 always focuses on the overall concept when developing high-tech cycling clothing. ‘The aim is not to produce super-light-weight or super-ventilated equipment, but one that can react and protect in all conditions’.
The Q stands for the Latin word for research - quarere - and 36.5 stands for the optimum body temperature. However, Bergamo emphasises that the Q36.5 approach to materials goes beyond thermoregulation: it's about compression, protection and the overall comfort of the cy-
clist. The Dottore Pro cycling shorts, one of the most advanced products, epitomise this holistic approach.
Cycling requires constant adaptation to changing weather conditions, unlike running, for example, where it is usually easier for the body to maintain an even temperature. When cycling, we either have to carry equipment for all situations or wear clothing that can cope with anything.
‘The aim is to develop thermo-regulating products that are very active and suitable for diLerent situations,’ says Bergamo. The Dottore Pro jersey is an example of this.
The scope of Q36.5 also extends to shoes, for which the same philosophy applies: always focussing on the body.
‘We saw a very interesting correlation between the pressure points on the saddle and on the shoes,’ says Bergamo. ‘So we started to carry out further tests with diLerent people and shoe types and realised that the pressure on the feet changed when we changed the seat pad, and that the pressure on the saddle changed when we changed something on the shoes. This inspired us to look at all three contact points - handlebars, saddle, pedals - together in our product development to oLer cyclists a completely new approach to overall
