Brand Profile
Unsung Weavers pieces are entirely designed and made in Athens, using materials sourced from Greece. The collection began with and still centers around series of one-off coats, hand-crafted out of woollen blankets salvaged from Arcadian villages. Each unique piece is a relic in itself, echoing the long forgotten rituals of rural production while reviving the ancient craft of weaving.
Unsung Weavers calls for a subtle renewal of lost lifestyles. The gathered materials date from a time when individual households created their own clothing, with numerous craftspeople in each village. Unsung Weavers is an homage to this anonymous expert craftsmanship within the blankets. It also honours other synergies that shaped them: the river that washed them, the bright sun that dried them, the Acacia flower that lent its colour. Every coat is entirely hand-stitched from patterns based on utilitarian apparel archetypes, such as the shepherd’s overcoat and the monastic jacket. Hems are raw cut, some designs feature decorative hand-embroidery, others are hand-dyed with plant based colourants. The coats’ material takes its structure from the blankets having been soaked on the riverbed for days to give them a felted quality, which also makes them water resistant.
