Paul&Shark’s SS22 collection is a modern, eco-conscious ode to the sailmaking tradition

Exhibitors Spotlight focuses on a selection of brands exhibiting at this year's Pitti Uomo, showcasing their upcoming collections and special upcoming projects.

Along with the necessary aesthetic adjustments to the zeitgeist’s trials and tribulations, such as comfort, relaxed fits and versatile workwear, this season’s overarching concern for sustainability has been embodied by a variety of collection narratives aiming to revisit and strengthen our connection with the natural world.

Outerwear has undoubtedly become a big player in the realm of menswear  — be it through camping, hiking, or sailing, the first step towards ecological awareness may simply lie in rekindling our connection to the environment itself, all too frequently diluted by the stress and demands of urban life.
Since its inception in 1976, Paul&Shark has been committed to celebrating the maritime environment through consistently high-quality, sustainable, and cutting-edge luxury leisurewear inspired by the sailmaking and seafaring tradition. Over the past decades — ever since the launch of its iconic COP918 sailing pullover — the brand founded by Paolo Dini has evolved into a global heavyweight, and a notable reference point for aficionados of Italian elegance adapted to the needs, movement, and pace of the everyday lifestyle.

For their latest collection, Paul&Shark have tapped into new sartorial narratives, all whilst remaining true to the brand’s DNA. Adding to existing sustainable initiatives, the SS22 collection features the Re-Cotton capsule collection crafted from yarns, developed with the innovative Ecotec process which allows to nearly halve the energy and water consumption necessary in manufacturing a T-shirt. Other production innovations include the introduction of Econyl nylon — a fabric generated from the repurposing of broken and used fishnets salvaged from the oceans.

This season, honoring their enduring devotion to the preservation of the maritime kingdom, the Italian brand continues its collaboration with UK-based conservation charity The Shark Trust, with whom they are launching various expeditions to research, acquire data, and raise awareness on endangered shark species such as the Atlantic Ocean’s blue shark.

From classic polo shirts to sturdy, wind-resistant jackets and infinitely recyclable vests, cargo shorts, or Bermudas, Paul&Shark’s latest collection revamps its instantly recognizable signature style, for a selection of silhouettes fittingly tending to the urgency of environmental concerns — encouraging you to get lost at sea, without any aesthetic compromise.
