Brand Profile
Nutrimenti was born in Rome in the autumn of 2001. Its name comes from the belief that books represent something essential and necessary to know and understand, like food, precisely nutrients. From the outset, the publishing house was divided into three sectors: fiction, non-fiction, the sea and sailing.
The series of fiction, with a vocation for "high" and quality writing, hosts many authors translated for the first time in Italy, among others the Americans Percival Everett, Don Robertson and Ivan Doig, or the Dutch Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer and Marieke Lucas Reijneveld. It launched several young Italian authors, such as Domenico Dara or Daniela Gambaro, who later established themselves both in Italy and abroad. Many prizes won, most recently the Campiello Award for first work in 2021. In 2024 was born "Greenwich Extra", a project for Italian fiction curated by a collective of editors: Giulia Caminito, Paolo Di Paolo and Alessandro Mari.
The non-fiction is aimed above all at current events, from civil rights to the environment, from politics to news. Among the most successful titles, in 2004 Nutrimenti published L’armadio della vergogna by Franco Giustolisi, an important text also for its historical and civil significance, on the concealment of the Nazi-fascist massacres that bloodied Italy between 1943 and 1945. In 2007 I sogni di mio padre (Dreams from my father), the autobiography of the future President of the United States, Barack Obama, a world best seller. From 2021 The Big Idea series, basic books for the 21st century, on the great issues of our time.
With the “Nutrimenti mare” label, the publishing house has since the beginning dedicated a significant part of its production to the sea and sailing, a sector in which it is now one of the reference publishers in Italy. In fact, it has published new translations of titles of the great sea literature, logbooks of contemporary navigators and technical manuals among the most appreciated and sold.
