Brand Profile
MELTEMI is the name of a wind blowing in the Mediterranean Sea and Melusina – the mythological two-tailed mermaid – is the unmistakable logo of the publishing house. Indeed, the female spirit of fresh water symbolizes Meltemi founders‘ willingness to publish books which could steer and guide any “sailor of thought”.
The history of the Publishing House began in 1994 with the publication of some significant manuscripts in the humanities and social sciences, which still represent the flagship of its catalogue and that Meltemi first introduced in Italy. Anthropology, aesthetics and visual cultures, sociology, cultural and gender studies, political sciences, colonial and post-colonial studies are the privileged areas of a catalogue that consists of around 800 titles and a network of authors that includes the greatest scholars of contemporary thought.
Re-launched in 2017, the Publishing House has brought back to bookshops volumes of great cultural relevance that had been missing from the shelves for a few years, alongside new titles that confirm its desire to continue publishing the best non-fiction on the many faces of modernity and current affairs.
