Yvo Van Regteren Altena born in 1958, descends from a distinct patrician Dutch art-collecting family with long-standing roots in the history of Amsterdam. Since his 6th birthday Yvo realized that he had the gift of the nose and started to determine fine fragrances. When he was 18 years old, the international fragrance company IFF asked him to become a “nose” and offered him a job in NYC.
With his love for the cello, Yvo initially
opted for a two-year conservatory education of which he studied for more than a year in Florence. It was in this city where his long- lasting love for Italy began. Eventually Yvo studied law in Amsterdam and ended up in journalism focusing on the world of fine fragrance, lifestyle and reports on spoiled traveling and exciting adventures.
Yvo has travelled the world and documented a dandy lifestyle for over 30 years. As a gentleman journalist, he engrossed in all that defines good taste, decadent living and perfumes in particular. Traveling the globe, he met the greatest ‘noses’ and was influenced by their obsession with the right blend of spellbinding ingredients.
In the past four years, Van Regteren Altena created four perfumes under his own name;
YVRA 1958 l’Essence de l’Essence, YVRA 1979 l’Essence de Présence, YVRA 1965 l’Essence de Flamboyance and a limited edition;
YVRA 1500 l’Essence de Distance. This year in 2021, his new fragrance L'Essence de L'Explorance will be launched. 
All creations were very well received internationally.
