Iris Slappendel is a former Dutch professional cyclist, whose career spanned 12 years. During this time, she achieved significant victories, including the Open de Suède Vårgårda Women’s World Cup in 2012 and the Dutch national road championship in 2014.
After retiring from competitive cycling at the end of 2016, she began to focus on her clothing brand, called I R I S, an acronym for "I Ride In Style". With a background as a product designer and extensive experience in professional cycling, she personally designs all products, overseeing every aspect of materials, fit, and design. Her commitment to the world of cycling has never waned, as she also became a co-founder and executive director of The Cyclists’ Alliance (TCA), an organization that supports professional female cyclists and strives to improve their working conditions.
Additionally, her role as a commentator and reporter for Eurosport allows her to continue contributing to the cycling world. Her presence on the BECYCLE stage will provide an opportunity to delve into the topic of women's cycling development, sharing her valuable insights on the progress and challenges that female cyclists face, both professionally and recreationally.
