Alessandra Cappellotto is an icon of Italian women's cycling. She was the first Italian woman to win a World Championship, in 1997. Throughout her career, she collected 2 bronze medals in time trials at the World Championships, 2 Italian national champion jerseys, 12 participations in the Giro d’Italia, 13 in the Tour de France, and 18 in the World Championships.

After ending her competitive career, she continued to be a prominent figure in the sport, serving as vice president of the Italian Professional Cyclists Association and later as a board member of the Italian Cycling Federation.

In 2017, she founded CPA Women, the world union of female cyclists recognized by the International Cycling Union, and in 2021, she founded Road to Equality, an association that promotes the empowerment of women through cycling in underdeveloped and developing countries.

In 2022, she received the prestigious "Sport and Human Rights Award" from Amnesty International and Sport4Society for her commitment to the rights of the most vulnerable and the promotion of women's cycling even on the toughest roads, from Rwanda to Afghanistan. In 2023, she received the "We Fair Play Award," a special recognition from Excelsior, for her support of female empowerment through sport.
